Greece's earliest copper coinage was struck in Paris under a monetary framework imposed largely by the protecting powers — Britain, France, and Russia — whose oversight of the fledgling kingdom extended well into its fiscal policy. The 1847–1849 dates correspond to production during the reign of Otto, the Bavarian-born king whose reign ended in forced abdication in 1862. Parisian manufacture was a practical necessity; domestic minting infrastructure remained inadequate for sustained copper production throughout this period.
