Muhammad Imaaduddeen V ruled the Maldives as Sultan from 1893 until his forced abdication in 1903, a reign spent largely under the tightening grip of British Ceylon's administrative influence. The lariat — the Maldives' traditional currency unit — had circulated in gold, silver, and copper denominations for centuries through the island atolls, but issues from this reign are sparsely documented and frequently absent from major reference works. The KM#Pn designation signals a pattern coin, almost certainly struck for presentation or record purposes rather than circulation.
