Issued during the final years of Ottoman participation in World War I, these small silver pieces circulated under extraordinary monetary strain. The empire's treasury was effectively bankrupt by 1915, sustained largely by German loans and the liquidation of state assets. Hoarding of silver was widespread, which ironically preserved many of these coins in better condition than their circulation dates would suggest.

KM#770 spans the regnal years corresponding to AH 1327, with the toughra year incremented on the reverse. Die deterioration is common across late strikes.
