The upper arc of the field bears the legend '中華民國十三年' (Year 13 of the Republic of China), while the lower arc reads '廣東省造' (Made in Kwangtung Province). Two small floral rosette devices flank the central inscription at mid-field. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent beaded inner border, with a reeded outer rim. |

Kwangtung Province maintained its own silver coinage well into the Republican period largely because the Canton mint operated with a degree of autonomy that the central Beiyang government in Beijing was never fully able to curtail. By 1924, the province was effectively under the control of the Guangzhou-based Nationalist movement, and local coinage continued as a practical necessity given the chronic shortage of small-denomination silver in the Pearl River Delta trade economy.
The 1924 date places this piece squarely in the period between Sun Yat-sen's return to Canton and the reorganization of the Nationalist Party under Soviet advisory influence.
