| 正面铭文 | УКРАЇНА 2 ГРИВНІ 1999 |
| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a finely detailed, naturalistic depiction of a garden dormouse (Eliomys quercinus) rendered in high relief, shown in profile clinging to a thorny bramble branch with a large blackberry fruit and leafy sprig beneath its body, its prominent whiskers, large eye, and bushy tail rendered with meticulous engraving detail. The Cyrillic legend СОНЯ САДОВА arcs along the upper periphery of the coin, while the Latin binomial scientific name ELIOMYS QUERCINUS curves along the lower periphery, separated by a small dash. |

Ukraine's "Flora and Fauna" bimetallic and base-metal wildlife series launched in the mid-1990s as one of the newly independent nation's first sustained collector programs, and the Garden Dormouse issue belongs to that early run. The dormouse itself is a genuinely uncommon animal in Ukraine — largely restricted to deciduous woodland in the Carpathian foothills — which gave the National Bank reasonable grounds for the inclusion.
Nickel brass of this period from the Lugansk Mint occasionally shows uneven planchet coloration, a known production inconsistency rather than post-mint damage.
