Obverse description A bold double-headed imperial eagle displayed at center, with wings spread and detailed feather work rendered in high relief, each head facing outward. The eagle's breast bears a decorative foliate device. The circular legend reads CONSTITUIRENDE VERSAMMLUNG I.D.F. STADT FRANKFURT 18. MAI 1848, with a star stop, running around the full periphery of the field. The design is executed in a neoclassical German style with finely milled borders.
