| Beschrijving voorzijde | Quartered heraldic shield at centre, displaying the arms of Burgundy (bendy of or and azure with a bordure of gules), Flanders (or, a lion rampant sable), and France (azure, semé-de-lis or), with a small inescutcheon of the lion of Hainaut at the fess point. The composite shield is set within a raised inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The circumferential legend in Gothic uncial script reads: ✠ PHS ⁑ DEI ⁑ GRA ⁑ DVX ⁑ BVRG ⁑ COMES ⁑ HANONIE, identifying Philip, by God's grace Duke of Burgundy and Count of Hainaut. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of mid-15th-century hammered billon coinage. |
