| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within a turreted enclosure or garden (hortus conclusus), a lion sejant guardant faces left, holding before it a shield bearing the quartered arms of Brabant and Burgundy. The composition is rendered in the Gothic style typical of Low Countries hammered coinage of the early fifteenth century. The peripheral legend, separated by lozenge stops, encircles the entire device and identifies the issuing authority. The field surrounding the lion is plain, with the architectural enclosure providing a decorative framing element characteristic of the 'thuyne' (garden) type coinage. |
