Obverse description The Semeuse (La Semeuse), the allegorical figure of the sower personifying the French Republic, is depicted in left-facing profile striding forward, draped in flowing classical robes with hair streaming in the wind. She carries a seed bag over her left shoulder and sows grain with her outstretched right hand against a background of radiating sunrays and a distant horizon line. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the left and right rim respectively, with the engraver's signature O. Roty inscribed at the base. The word ESSAI appears in the left field, identifying this piece as a trial strike.
