Reversbeschreibung A centrally placed frontally-facing leptoceros gazelle head, its long lyrate horns rising prominently into the upper field and flanking the denomination numerals. The gazelle is surrounded by an abundant arrangement of tropical and agricultural crops, including maize, cotton plants, and leafy vegetation, symbolising the natural resources of the territory. The denomination '2 F.' is divided by the horns in the upper portion of the field. A beaded inner border frames the design. The circular legend AFRIQUE EQUATORIALE FRANÇAISE runs along the lower periphery.

Zusätzliche Informationen

Piefort essais from the immediate postwar Monnaie de Paris represent the mint's internal process for approving new coinage types before committing to full production runs. The 1948 aluminum piefort — struck at double the normal planchet thickness — was part of the systematic retooling of French coinage following the Liberation, when the wartime and Vichy-era issues needed replacement. Aluminum had been adopted for lower denominations out of necessity; France's metal reserves and industrial capacity were still recovering from occupation and requisition.

Pieforts of this type were not struck for circulation. Distribution was limited to official archives and a small number of presentation recipients.
