Michaut's pattern work of 1815–1816 falls into the awkward interregnum when Louis XVIII had just been restored to the throne following Napoleon's first abdication, and the mint administration was scrambling to establish a new coinage identity. The references tell an odd story: catalog cross-listings under 5-centime entries in both Mazard and Gadoury suggest this bronze piece was struck on the same planchet stock used for minor circulation coinage, then submitted as a 2-franc denomination proposal — a denomination mismatch that likely killed its chances before any official review.
