Beschrijving voorzijde Central field of the brass inner disc features a detailed relief of a Formula 1 racing car in three-quarter perspective, with the driver's helmet visible in the open cockpit. The legend 'GRAND PRIX SAN MARINO' arcs along the upper portion of the copper-nickel outer ring in incuse Latin lettering. Twelve five-pointed stars, evoking the European Union motif, are arranged around the inner disc border, and the commemorative date range '1981 - 2005' appears in the lower exergue, marking the 25th anniversary of the San Marino Grand Prix.

Aanvullende informatie

San Marino's 2005 commemorative program coincided with the country's long-running sponsorship presence in Formula One, where the "San Marino Grand Prix" had been held annually at Imola since 1981 — despite no part of the circuit lying within San Marino's actual 61 square kilometers. The race borrowed the name largely for marketing reasons tied to regional tourism, a geographic fiction that the FIA tolerated for decades before the event was dropped from the calendar after 2006.
