To the lower left of the central motif, the inscription '75 JAAR ANS' denotes the 75th anniversary of women's full voting rights in Belgium, enacted in 1948. Belgium granted women the right to vote in national elections in 1948 — nearly three decades after many neighboring countries, and only after sustained pressure from Catholic women's organizations whose political loyalty the Christian Social Party was unwilling to lose. The delay was largely strategic rather than principled.
This commemorative was issued under the authority of King Philippe, whose reign began in 2013.
