| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays the standard €2 commemorative coin design by Luc Luycx, featuring a stylised relief map of Europe extending beyond the borders of the European Union member states, set against a background of transverse lines. The face value 2 EURO appears prominently to the left of the map. The engraver's initials LL are visible in the design. The inner disc is surrounded by the twelve stars of the European Union, while the outer ring bears a latent-image and reeded security edge motif typical of €2 coinage. |

Kostis Palamas was the poet whose words, set to music by Spyridon Samaras, became the Olympic Hymn — first performed at the revival of the Athens Games in 1896 and formally adopted by the IOC as the official anthem in 1958. This coin marks the 150th anniversary of his birth. When Palamas died in February 1943, Athens was under Axis occupation; his funeral drew tens of thousands into the streets in an act of open defiance, mourners spontaneously singing the national anthem despite the German presence.
