| Obverse description | The central device of the inner disc depicts Planet Earth encircled by stylised waves, commemorating the International Year of Sustainable Tourism. The arched legend TURISMO SOSTENIBILE appears above, with SAN MARINO and the date 2017 below. To the right of the globe is the designer's mark, a circle enclosing the letter A (for Andrew Lewis); the engraver's initials UP INC. (Uliana Pernazza) appear to the right, and the Italian State Mint mark R appears to the left. The design is rendered in a clean, contemporary graphic style within the bimetallic format. |

| Additional information |
San Marino issues commemorative 2-euro coins under agreements with the European Central Bank, which grants the microstate — along with Monaco, Vatican City, and Andorra — the right to produce euro-denominated coinage despite not being an EU member. Annual allocations are capped, and San Marino's mintage limits tend to be among the lowest in the eurozone commemorative program, which keeps most of its issues out of everyday circulation almost immediately upon release.
The UN designated 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development under Resolution 70/193, adopted in December 2015.
