Luxembourg's 2015 commemorative marks the 30th anniversary of the EU flag — the same flag formally adopted by the European Communities in 1985 after years of unofficial use. Grand Duke Henri I acceded to the throne in 2000 following the abdication of his father Jean, making this one of his later commemorative appearances in the ongoing eurozone anniversary series shared across all member states that year.
All eurozone members issued a common reverse design for this anniversary, with each country supplying its own national obverse — a rare instance of coordinated multinational minting across over a dozen sovereign mints simultaneously.
