| Beschrijving voorzijde | The inner disc features a stylised portrait of the humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam, rendered in a contemporary graphic style derived from a well-known historical depiction. Radiating from the portrait is a network of interconnecting links extending across the coin field toward opposing anchor points, symbolising the intellectual and human exchanges of the Erasmus student exchange programme; select nodes within this network coalesce to form star motifs, evoking the synergy of participating European nations. The numerals '35' emerge prominently from the star-link composition in a modern typographic style, commemorating the 35th anniversary of the programme, with the dates '1987–2022' inscribed in the field. The legend ERASMUS PROGRAMME and the country name in both Greek (ΚΥΠΡΟΣ) and Turkish (KIBRIS) appear in the inner disc, with the initials J.J. denoting the designer. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union flag. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The common reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, depicts a geographic map of Europe spanning both the inner disc and the outer ring on the right side of the coin. The denomination '2 EURO' is superimposed over the map, with the large numeral '2' positioned in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Six raised vertical lines traverse the inner disc, visually linking the upper and lower segments of the outer ring, which bears six stars above and six stars below the map, comprising the full complement of twelve European Union stars.
