| Obverse description | The inner disc features a portrait of Juan Sebastián Elcano set against a globe in the background, commemorating the first circumnavigation of the Earth (1519–1522). The legend JUAN SEBASTIÁN ELCANO arcs along the lower portion of the field, accompanied by the Latin motto PRIMUS CIRCUMDEDISTI ME, meaning 'First to circumnavigate me.' The dates 1519–1522, marking the start and conclusion of the expedition, appear at the shoulder of the portrait. To the right, the issuing country name ESPAÑA and the mint year 2022 are inscribed in capital letters, while the mint mark M appears to the left.
