| Obverse description | The inner disc features a stylised portrait of Prince Charles III set against the words MONTE CARLO rendered in large letters within the field. A curved inscription along the lower portion of the inner disc reads '1866 CHARLES III FONDE MONTE CARLO 2016', commemorating the 150th anniversary of the foundation of Monte Carlo. The legend 'MONACO' arcs across the upper portion of the inner disc, flanked on either side by the Monnaie de Paris mint mark and the mint master's privy mark. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union. |
