| Additional information |
This coin was issued to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the European flag's adoption as the official symbol of the European Communities — the flag itself having been formally approved by the Council of Europe in 1955 and adopted by the EC in 1985. Lithuania joined the EU only in 2004, meaning this anniversary predates Lithuanian membership by nearly two decades, giving the commemorative an oddly retrospective quality for its issuer.
