The 2015 commemorative marks the 30th anniversary of the European flag's adoption as the official symbol of the European Communities — a decision taken by the European Council in Milan in June 1985, formalizing a design that the Council of Europe had already been using since 1955. Italy issued this alongside other Eurozone members as part of a coordinated multi-national release, one of the few instances where every participating state struck the same commemorative theme simultaneously, differing only in the national side.
