| Obverse description | The bimetallic centre features a stylised composition in which twelve stars of the European Union gradually morph into human figures joining hands, symbolising the unity of peoples and cultures under a shared European vision. The legend REPUBBLICA ITALIANA arcs along the upper field, flanked by the commemorative dates 1985–2015 at upper right, and the engraver's initials ΓΣ (Georgios Stamatopoulos) appear in the lower right field. The design commemorates the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the European flag. The outer copper-nickel ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union in their customary arrangement. |
