Lithuania joined the Eurozone on January 1, 2015, making it the last of the three Baltic states to adopt the euro — Estonia had converted in 2011, Latvia in 2014. The timing closed a chapter that began with Soviet occupation in 1940 and ran through decades of the ruble, the transitional talonas, and finally the litas, which had been pegged to the euro at a fixed rate of 3.4528 since 2002.
The Lithuanian Mint in Vilnius struck the entire national euro coin range domestically from the outset.
