| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse displays the quartered royal arms of Spain within a shield, featuring the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with Granada in the base. The shield is surmounted by a crown and flanked by the Pillars of Hercules on either side, partially visible at the periphery due to the irregular cob planchet. The design is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage tradition, struck by hand on a roughly cut flan, resulting in an irregular outline with flat fields and incomplete legends. The heraldic devices are rendered in bold relief typical of early eighteenth-century Mexican hammered gold coinage. |
