Obverse description The obverse displays the quartered royal arms of Spain within a shield, featuring the castles of Castile and the lions of León in alternating quarters, with Granada in the base. The shield is surmounted by a crown and flanked by the Pillars of Hercules on either side, partially visible at the periphery due to the irregular cob planchet. The design is characteristic of the macuquina (cob) coinage tradition, struck by hand on a roughly cut flan, resulting in an irregular outline with flat fields and incomplete legends. The heraldic devices are rendered in bold relief typical of early eighteenth-century Mexican hammered gold coinage.

Reverse description The reverse features a large Jerusalem cross, boldly struck in the center of the irregular flan, with the four quadrants defined by the cross arms each containing a lion or castle motif consistent with the standard cob type. A partial circular legend surrounds the cross, though much of it is lost to the irregular planchet edges, as is typical of macuquina coinage. The denomination mark and assayer initial are partially visible in the field adjacent to the cross. The overall strike is characteristically off-center and uneven, reflecting the hand-hammered production method of the period.
