À Cœur Joie, the Lyon-based choral federation founded in 1945 by César Geoffray, issued this piece to mark the XVth Choralies — the triennial choral festival held at Vaison-la-Romaine in the Vaucluse. The Choralies routinely draws tens of thousands of amateur singers from across the francophone world, making it one of the largest participatory choral gatherings in Europe. This ecu denomination places it squarely within the wave of regional and associative currency-adjacent tokens that proliferated in France during the early 1990s alongside enthusiasm for the theoretical ECU ahead of Maastricht ratification.
