Regensburg's 1627 ducat issue commemorates the centennial of the city's Trinity Church (Dreieinigkeitskirche), construction of which began in 1627 — a pointed act of Lutheran civic pride at a moment of acute confessional danger. The Thirty Years' War was already nine years old, and Imperial Catholic forces under Tilly had recently devastated Protestant strongholds across the Empire. Regensburg, as a Free Imperial City with a mixed but Lutheran-dominated council, was threading a precarious political needle.
The Fr#2458 reference places this among the rarer Regensburg gold multiples. The KM#57 variant designation suggests at least one die difference from the primary catalogued type, though the precise distinguishing characteristic varies by source.
