2 Ducats - Leopold Anton von Firmian

Leopold Anton von Firmian served as Archbishop of Salzburg from 1727 until his death in 1744, but his tenure is defined almost entirely by a single act: the 1731 expulsion of roughly 20,000 Protestant subjects from the archbishopric — one of the largest forced migrations in 18th-century Central Europe. The expelled Salzburgers were resettled across Prussia, the Dutch Republic, and eventually Georgia in the American colonies, where their descendants are documented to this day.

These ducats were struck in the immediate aftermath of that expulsion, with Firmian's authority at its most absolute and most contested.
