In his raised right hand he holds a staff of office, while his left hand supports a crown resting upon a book, attributes emblematic of his royal lineage and monastic sanctity. A raven perches upon his left shoulder, a hagiographic attribute associated with the saint's legend. Below the figure, two heraldic shields are arranged side by side, representing the arms of Scotland and the Anwerths family. The encircling Latin legend identifies the saint as prince of Leinster and patron monk of Rheinau. |
