2 Ducats - Christoph Francis of Hutten

Christoph Francis von Hutten served as Prince-Bishop of Würzburg from 1724 until his death in 1729 — one of the shorter reigns among the eighteen-century occupants of that see. The Hutten family had deep roots in Franconian nobility, and the issuance of gold multiples during even a brief episcopate was standard practice for asserting princely rank within the Holy Roman Empire's ecclesiastical hierarchy.

Five years was barely enough time to establish a substantial coinage program, which partly explains why KM#277 survivors turn up infrequently in trade.
