The shield is rendered in fine engraved detail and is enclosed within a twisted rope inner border. The surrounding legend, divided by the date 15·65, reads NON · NOB : DO : N : NO · SED · NOM : T : D : GLOR, an abbreviated form of the Psalm verse Non nobis Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam (Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Thy name give glory). |

Albert V ruled Bavaria through a period of intense confessional tension, and his gold coinage of the 1560s was minted partly to finance the cultural apparatus — libraries, court musicians, the Kunstkammer — that he deployed as instruments of Counter-Reformation prestige. The multi-year span of this issue reflects continuous production rather than a single die run, though Hahn distinguishes at least minor varieties across the sequence.
