| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Prince George of Greece facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and short beard. The engraver's signature A. BORRЕЛ appears in small letters beneath the truncation. The surrounding legend, interrupted at the base by the date 1901 flanked by decorative stops, reads ΠΡΙΓΚΗΨ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ ΥΠΑΤΟΣ ΑΡΜΟΣΤΗΣ ΕΝ ΚΡΗΤΗ, identifying him as Prince George of Greece, High Commissioner in Crete. The portrait is executed in the academic French medallic style characteristic of the Monnaie de Paris. |
