The effigy is executed in high relief in the elaborate Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Tuscan gold coinage. The Latin legend encircles the portrait, separated by punctuation marks, reading FERDIN DG DVX MANT VI. A beaded border frames the entire obverse field. |

The crown above the shield bears the motto FID-ES flanking a small representation of Mount Olympus. The chain and badge of the Order of the Redeemer encircles the shield. The reverse legend, divided by stars and dots, runs around the entire composition within a beaded border. |
