Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Ferdinando II to right, wearing a high lace collar and ornate pauldron with floral decoration, the hair rendered in natural flowing curls. The effigy is executed in high relief in the elaborate Baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Tuscan gold coinage. The Latin legend encircles the portrait, separated by punctuation marks, reading FERDIN DG DVX MANT VI. A beaded border frames the entire obverse field.

Reverse description A crowned baroque cartouche bearing a complex quartered shield with a central escutcheon of nine-fold arms, representing the dynastic territories of the Gonzaga-Medici house. The crown above the shield bears the motto FID-ES flanking a small representation of Mount Olympus. The chain and badge of the Order of the Redeemer encircles the shield. The reverse legend, divided by stars and dots, runs around the entire composition within a beaded border.
