Its appearance on a Fijian issue is purely commercial, targeting the Asian bullion collector market that drove a wave of similar "koi" releases from Pacific island minting programs throughout the early 2020s. These nations function as licensing issuers, with the coins designed, struck, and distributed almost entirely by external minting houses.
The .9999 fineness and fractional weight place it squarely in the small-denomination collector bullion category pioneered by the Perth Mint's fractional series in the 1990s.
