Jasna Góra, the Pauline monastery in Częstochowa, has functioned as the spiritual center of Polish Catholicism since the 14th century and became a particular flashpoint during the Swedish invasion of 1655–57, when its successful defense against Carolus X Gustav's forces was credited — by contemporaries and later nationalists alike — to miraculous intervention. Palau has issued numerous small-denomination silver pieces under this broad "sacred places" framework, largely targeting the collector and gift markets in Catholic Europe.
