| Reverse description | Within a raised inner circle, two uniformed soldiers are depicted in the act of raising the national flag of Belize atop a flagpole, the flag shown unfurling at its peak. A stylised radiant sun appears to the upper left of the composition, set against a plain field. The commemorative legend 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE curves along the outer upper periphery, with the date span 1981-2011 inscribed along the lower border. |

Belize's dollar coinage traces directly to the Eastern Caribbean dollar system it abandoned at independence in 1981, when the new Central Bank pegged the Belizean dollar to the USD at a fixed rate of 2:1 — a peg that has held without adjustment for over four decades, one of the longer-running fixed exchange arrangements in the Western Hemisphere.
