Reverse description The inner core, designed by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel, depicts two ice hockey players in the iconic uniforms of Team Canada competing in the 1972 Canada-U.S.S.R. Summit Series, set against a stylized maple leaf motif drawn from the team jersey. Bilingual inscriptions 'THE SERIES' and 'LA SÉRIE' appear alongside '50 YEARS ANS' commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the historic series. The outer nickel-plated steel ring bears the coaches' initials and the players' jersey numbers, encircling the central core as a tribute to the full Team Canada roster. The denomination '2 DOLLARS' and country name 'CANADA' are also inscribed on the reverse. A colorized variant was issued alongside the standard circulation version.
