| Reverse description | A highly detailed three-dimensional sculptural depiction of a pelican in full frontal stance, its wings dramatically spread to either side and rendered with fine feather detailing against a richly engraved and enamelled black background featuring foliate and floral motifs. A small chick stands at the pelican's feet in an attitude of supplication, evoking the classical heraldic 'pelican in her piety' motif.
