Australia's 2020 Tokyo Olympics program was struck a year ahead of the Games themselves — then the Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving this coin in the unusual position of commemorating an event that had not yet occurred at the time of circulation. The pad-printed colour application, applied after striking, is notoriously susceptible to wear and handling damage; even lightly circulated examples frequently show degradation at the colour edges.
