| Obverse description | The sixth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Jody Clark, occupies the centre of the obverse, depicting a right-facing draped bust of the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II flanks the upper left field, with AUSTRALIA and the date 2020 disposed along the right periphery. The denomination 2 DOLLARS appears along the lower rim, separated by two raised dots. The engraver's initials JC are present below the truncation. |

Australia's 2020 Tokyo Olympics program was struck a year ahead of the Games themselves — then the Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving this coin in the unusual position of commemorating an event that had not yet occurred at the time of circulation. The pad-printed colour application, applied after striking, is notoriously susceptible to wear and handling damage; even lightly circulated examples frequently show degradation at the colour edges.
