The central motif, enclosed within a beaded inner border, depicts a nude St. George on horseback thrusting his lance downward to slay a coiled dragon beneath the horse's hooves, his flowing cloak billowing dramatically behind him. The date '1920' appears in the exergue below the central device, with the mint mark 'S' visible at the base of the design. The outer legend reads '1999 MASTERPIECES IN SILVER' around the upper arc and 'TWO DOLLARS' along the lower arc. |

This piece belongs to the Royal Australian Mint's 1999 Masterpieces in Silver set, which reproduced historic Australian coin designs in fine silver as a collector series. The underlying design it references — the 1920 Sovereign — carries genuine historical weight: sovereigns struck at the Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth mints during 1920 were among the final years of full-scale Australian branch mint sovereign production before output declined sharply through the early 1920s. Perth continued intermittently until 1931, when the gold standard's collapse effectively ended the series.
