Issued to mark Australia's contribution to peacekeeping operations, this coin belongs to a three-part series released by the Perth Mint covering the Army, Navy, and Air Force respectively. The pad-printing technique — a form of industrial ink transfer borrowed from commercial manufacturing — was still relatively novel in numismatic applications in 2005, allowing the RAAF roundel and associated colour elements to be applied with a precision that enamel or traditional colouring methods couldn't reliably achieve at this scale.
