| Obverse description | Central field depicts a colourized effigy of a Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus nesiotes), the subspecies endemic to Fiji and also found in New Caledonia and Vanuatu, rendered in naturalistic detail. The legend FIJI and the date 2012 appear to the right of the falcon, accompanied by the Fijian vernacular name GA NI VATU. This motif replaced the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II following Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth of Nations in 2009, with Commonwealth membership subsequently reinstated in September 2014. |
