Niue has leveraged its currency-issuing rights under a Compact of Free Association with New Zealand since the early 1990s to become one of the Pacific's most prolific bullion and novelty coin programs. Marvel licensing agreements have produced dozens of these issues across multiple mints. The gold plating on .999 silver is applied after striking, typically via electroforming, and its long-term adhesion on handled pieces is inconsistent.
