Spencer Perceval remains the only British Prime Minister ever assassinated, shot in the lobby of the House of Commons on 11 May 1812 by a bankrupt merchant named John Bellingham, who had a personal grievance against the government over an unresolved compensation claim. Niue's licensing arrangements with the Perth and other mints have made it one of the more prolific issuing authorities for commemorative silver in the modern market — its sovereignty providing the legal framework while production and distribution occur entirely offshore.
