The Chupanid amirs never held the Ilkhanid title themselves — they ruled through it, propping up a succession of nominal khans while exercising real power from behind. Hasan Kuchak, the amir controlling this issue, had his puppet Sulayman enthroned in 1339 specifically to legitimize Chupanid dominance over western Persia and Azerbaijan against rival Jalayirid pressure. The arrangement was fragile from the start.
The "eye shape" designation refers to the flan geometry — a production characteristic, not a design choice — and helps collectors distinguish this subtype within Sulayman's brief coinage sequence.
