Serbia reintroduced the dinar as its sole currency in 2003 following the dissolution of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, retiring the Yugoslav dinar that had carried the country through the turbulent 1990s and its associated hyperinflation. The 2006 issue marked a further consolidation of national monetary identity after the formal separation from Montenegro that same year.
