Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal bend with a bear passant — enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Above the shield, an imperial eagle displayed facing left serves as a crest. The mintmaster's initial 'B' appears to the left of the shield in the field. A circular legend in Gothic uncial lettering runs within the outer border, reading MONETA NO BERNENSIS B E, separated by rosette stops.
