The 1670 copper pattern for Nouvelle France was never put into production — the colony's chronic shortage of circulating coinage went largely unresolved by metropolitan France for decades, with merchants and administrators resorting to card money by the 1680s. Whether the pattern was rejected on logistical grounds or simply lost in the bureaucratic machinery of Colbert's ministry is not documented with certainty.
KM#Pn1 is the only recorded pattern denomination for this proposed colonial issue, making surviving examples exceptionally rare.
